Chairperson, MIER
Dr. Renu Gupta M.A Psychology from Punjab University, Chandigarh in 1972 and Gold
Medalist in B.Ed. from Jammu University in 1982, M.Ed. from Himachal Pradesh University,
Shimla in 1985. She was awarded Ph.D. in Education from Kurukshetra University,
Kurukshetra in 1990. In addition to this, she did Post Graduate Diploma in Distance
Education from IGNOU in 1989 and completed course work for MA in Distance Education,
IGNOU in 1996. She was granted national scholarship from Jammu University for doing
M.Ed. course and Common Wealth Learning Scholarship for M.A in Distance Education.
She is former Vice Chairperson/ Director, MIER and Principal of MIER College of
Education Autonomous (2003-2018). During her tenure, the college attained national and
international reputation and obtained highest NAAC ranking three times with A,A and A+
GRADE respectively. Presently, she is working as Chairperson of MIER group of
Institutions.
She is dealing with Policy Planning, Administration, Finance, Training and
Research. Her areas of specialization are Educational Psychology, Distance Education,
Women Development and Child Welfare, Teacher Education, Educational Management,
Civic Education and Special Education respectively. She is also a prolific writer and has
several publications and research papers to her credit. She has attended about thirty-five
national and international conferences/workshops/seminars in India and other countries. She
was invited to USA as a part of International Visitorship Programme in the year 1995. She
was a member of the Educational Research Delegation 'People to People' programme,
USA and visited China to study the system of education in China in the year 2010. She is a
national level trainer for the empowerment of women under UGC and also Director, Centre
for Women Studies at MIER College of Education (Autonomous). She is a member of
several important committees constituted by the University of Jammu, the UGC and the
NAAC, being expert committee member of the UGC for autonomous colleges and NAAC
assessor since 2010. Besides, she is the external examiner for PhD of University of Pune
and Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan. She is also a regular broadcaster on
Radio and Doordarshan. She is connected with several NGO's and other organizations
dealing with environment, special education, educational research and empowerment of
youth. She is Chairperson of the 'Board of Directors' of the parent Body Model Institute of Education & Research (MIER) and the 'Governing Body' of the MIER College of
Education (Autonomous) and Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (Autonomous).
She is also a life member of All India Association for Educational Research, Council for
Teacher Education, India and member of the Advisory Board of the Council for Educational
Administration and Management (CEAM). She has received several awards for her
contribution in different fields in society. She has travelled extensively both in and outside
the country.
She had been conferred with Dr. D.R.Vij National award for "Emeritus Teacher Educator for
the year 2019" from Council for Teacher Education Foundation, South Zone in recognition
of her valuable contribution in the field Teacher Education. Besides, she has recently been
conferred with "Lifement Achievement" award by Abraham Lincoln Shiksha Society in
collaboration with International Delhi Public School in September,2020 for her immense
contributions in the field of education.
